MDPPA’s Tropang MAALAM Campaign

Challenge

Motorcycles account for 62% of registered vehicles in the Philippines, but rapid growth has driven a severe surge in accidents, primarily caused by human error like speeding and traffic violations. With road injuries representing the leading cause of death for Filipinos aged 15 to 29, the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA)—representing Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha—needed to curb risky riding behaviors. The challenge was to break through ingrained, unsafe habits by making road safety education practical, relatable, and accessible to daily commuters.

Solution

MDPPA partnered with Grupo Agatep to launch “Tropang MAALAM,” an integrated campaign combining digital storytelling, earned media, and direct community engagement. Grupo Agatep directed overall execution, turning Facebook into a digital education hub and coordinating interactive road safety seminars across local government units, schools, and rider clubs. The agency also led targeted media outreach, placing practical articles on real-world rider concerns—such as identifying fake spare parts and navigating heavy rain—in major news outlets.

Results

The campaign scaled well beyond initial benchmarks, with interactive seminars reaching 1,088 participants and nearly doubling the original target. Digital operations delivered high video views and exceptional community interaction across Facebook, consistently outperforming industry engagement averages. Grupo Agatep’s media outreach further secured widespread coverage across major digital publications, generating multi-million peso media value while establishing MDPPA as a definitive leader in responsible mobility.
